Legendary German label Plastic City looks towards the release of the outstanding debut album from duo Oscar Barila & Maiki

Mannheim based Plastic City has been around for the best part of twenty years now, pushing quality house and techno from industry heavyweights and fresh talent alike. Albums from the likes of The Timewriter, Terry Lee Brown Jnr, Nikola Gala & Lukas Greenberg have shown the labels commitment to artist development and a dedication to electronic music long players. Now the legendary label looks towards the debut album from the duo of Oscar Barila & Maiki, a pair who are set to become a major feature on dance music’s global stage.

Barila hails from Valencia in Spain and has become one of the most notable producers to come out of the country in recent years. He has been behind over 40 releases for labels such as Kling Klong, Acker, Parquet & Plastic City to name just a few and has DJ’ed across the globe. His musical partner Maiki is from Milan, Italy and at the tender age of 21 has already achieved much with records released through the likes of Viva, Acker & Stranjjur and widespread A-list DJ support.

The pair began working together in 2011, saw a couple of well received collaborative singles released and got their heads down for the writing of this their debut album, the appropriately titled ‘Parallel Minds’. The LP is a collection of 11 wonderful tracks that are rooted in the pair’s love of house music; from the jazzy musicality of title track ‘Parallel Minds’ to the uplifting vocal stylings of ‘Forgive the Drama’ and on to the groove led sounds of ‘Convexions’ there is rich variety yet cohesions throughout.

Despite the wonderfully laidback closer ‘Dancing to the Moonlight’ this is very much a dancefloor-orientated album and a true reflection on where these two DJ/Producers are coming from. ‘Parallel Minds’ is an insight into the sound of house music in 2012, with an occasional tip of the hat to what has gone before, enjoy.

365mag brings you the Official Ableton Live Tour 2012 and presents you with an opportunity to participate in one of our interactive workshops. We are hosting 10 Master Class Sessions in 2012 all over the Netherlands in cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Groningen, Nijmegen, Tilburg and many more.

As part of our program you can expect an interactive Master Class with live elements, on the spot production, mixing tips and tricks as well as our two Certified Ableton Trainers and special guest like Camiel Daamen who will make sure that none of your questions remain unanswered.  Don’t forget that this is also a great opportunity for you to bring us your work so that we, together with Klopfgeist can give you an insightful analysis and feedback.

PART 1. SYNTHESIS with Cenk Unis and Alex Thomson

Building a track, live on stage, using only Synthesis to come up with our very own Unique track. The evening will start off with Ableton Certified Unis-Academy lecturer’s Cenk Unis and Alex Thomson building a track live on stage in 45 minutes. For this purpose they will make use of synthesis along with a variety of production techniques and a couple of Ableton’s “hidden features” to show how everything, including basic drum sounds, can be done from scratch. This means no samples whatsoever!

PART 2. SAMPLING AND SESSION VIEW with Menno Keij

Three great ways to work with session view

For the second part of the presentation we have Menno Keij (Ableton Certified Trainer/Edutones) and a percussionist Kaan Taprak (Flying Turkishman) showcasing three great ways to use Ableton’s unique session view to create music.

This includes: creating a DJ set with your favorite tracks, making a live set with loops and samples, and using the session view to record and mix loops on the fly

For this part of the presentation we will also provide you, the audience, with an opportunity to submit your own sounds, together with our live recorded percussions to make an interesting, unique track.

PART 3. TIPS AND TRICKS ON MIXING AND MASTERING with Camiel Daamen

Knowledge is nothing if it’s not shared

For the last part of the evening dj/producer Camiel Daamen (one of the Dutch rising stars) will share with you some of the techniques used by professionals in today’s music industry. His focus will be on mixing drums and making use of auxiliary sends to process sounds individually for some interesting results.

About Camiel:

Dutchman Camiel Daamen has come a long way from his early fascinations with sounds and music, and after many years of practicing and collecting experience he has released on imprints including Klopfgeist, PiekUp, Flash Records and Steve Lawler’s VIVa as well as collecting praises from artists like Loco Dice and Maya Jane Coles.  His style of music is sleek tech house with jazzy influences, deft percussive details and a true sense of groove. Today you can find him playing various festivals and venues across the Europe.

Fans of deep and funky electronic sounds should keep an eye out for this rising talent!

PART 2. RESOLUME AVENUE 4 with Joris de Jong

The second part of the evening will focus on the newest in VJ-ing and live visual productions using Resolume’s Avenue 4. Avenue 4 is an instrument for VJs, AV performers and video artists which puts all your media and effects right at your fingertips so you can quickly improvise with all your live visuals.

Joris de Jong, one of the main brains behind Resolume will be on stage explaining exactly how Resolume works, and how to custom make your own visuals in an easy to use and intuitive manner. Resolume has enabled VJs, A/V artists and Live visual productions to reach new levels of expertise.

Unis Academy in association with Resolume will begin its next Visual Course on the 25th April. It will be taught by Joris de Jong himself at Unis Studio in Amsterdam.

PART 3. AUDIO/VISUAL PERFORMANCE USING ABLETON AND RESOLUME with special guest Patrice Bäumel

For the third part of the evening internationally renowned DJ and producer Patrice Bäumel will explain and demonstrate how he used Ableton in conjunction with Resolume to create his amazing, upcoming audio/visual performance.

About Patrice:

Patrice Bäumel is a German electronic musician who has been living in Amsterdam for the last 14 years. Before fully committing his life to making music, he had a career in teaching, computer programming and design, which makes him the perfect person for this event.

PART 4. MAPPING WITH RESOLUME ARENA 4 with VJ Collective: Trial & Error

Trial & Error will demonstrate the mapping possibilities of Resolume’s Arena 4. To do this they will use everyday materials such as a piece of cardboard and a simple roll of duct tape along with Arena 4 they will demonstrate just how easily you can leave the flat world behind you and immerse yourself into a  3D wonderland. While using the same interface as Avenue, Arena opens up a new perspective and gives you the ability to create amazing results with minimal efforts and investments.
