Thank god for the winter season to be almost over... the Liedschatten label, one of the finest labels in chill out music, already looks forward to the spring with a brand new compilation titled Dolomiti Super Chill: Spring 2009. Their 2007 Dolomiti Super Chill compilation was remarked by futuristic summer chill out vibes and top notch tunage, and this compilation aims to cover the vivid Spring season with no less than 18 fresh tunes plus a continuous mix with three extra tracks in the album!

Liedschatten releases all carry that classic chill out vibe, but are firmly rooted in forward-thinking compositions and contain futuristic sounds and effects. This release follows up on this tradition, although it is far from chill out only. Rich and diverse in its content, the CD covers genres such as experimental (electronic) jazz, ambient, poppy electronica and even a bit of house grooves. The jazzy Sunrise by Krieger & Feuersaenger opens the album with a playful jazz tune in which the keys and strings form an exquisite combination, after which we encounter the break-beat-based Orange Sphere (by Future Former) and its overwhelming synth glows. From that point on, the CD keeps on serving us a wide variety of sounds and genres, which are all remarked by highly impressive production techniques, clear crispy sounds and melodic themes. The beautifully mellow One Day by Sencha flirts with country guitars and is a truly mesmerizing pop song, while Orbit Sound Production by Vibro Mood sounds like St. Germain 2.0. And then there's Lazy Fish by Future Former, which immediately made me picture myself on an airbed in the Mediterrean sea. Every track is original in its genre and incredibly well orchestrated, but special attention goes out to the trippy Cinematic Celesta by Frohstopp which, at its most intense moments, is a track of Squarepusher-esque proportions.

Dolomiti Super Chill: Spring 2009 has become an intriguing release: a collection of tracks across a variety of genres, although a red line is easily recognisable. Whether it's jazz, house, chill out, electronica or any other genre featured on this compilation, each and every carries a wonderful array of melodies, life, warmth, atmosphere and depth that is a rarity these days. A release that could indeed be the perfect soundtrack to this year's spring.
