Introvert yet outspoken. Warm yet cold. mysterious yet sounding familiar. Contradictive as it may seem, this more or less describes the sound of Damero. Add some romance, velvet vocals, soft whispers and warm melodies transforming into mysterious sound-scapes to that, and you'll find innovating music that exceeds the narrow limitations in today's electronic music. Damero's sound contains elements from from triphop, electronica, minimal, electro, and pop, blended into a mysterious and personal collage oozing with emotional content. Perfect music for those in love, or for those who have just broken up. Her all-new album Happy In Grey, to be released on German BPitch Control imprint, showcases her unique sound and production style, with live-sets scheduled for the near future. More than enough reason for the 365mag crew to go and find out more about this talented new artist in the form of a special category: the extended 10 questions.

1. What is your first memory to music?
I can't really remember, but it was probably either my parents singing children songs to me or even the Weihnachtsoratorium by Bach while I was in my mom's belly. She listened to it every Christmas, at least one time a day, and I was born in January, so …

2. What is your favourite piece of equipment you use in the studio or DJing and why?
I don't DJ, so it's just producing. It's a really old Yamaha keyboard that doesn't even have a midi port. With this little thing I compose all of my tracks, before I finish them on the computer and with other instruments.

3. What is your current top 5? (artist / title / label)
Hmm … I don't really follow the charts. The last albums I really liked where:
1. Yo La Tengo - I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass
2. Bonnie Prince Billy - The Letting Go
3. Hot Chip - Coming On Strong
4. Charlotte Gainsbourgh - %:55
5. Trentemøller - The last resort

4. Sex, Drugs or Rock 'n Roll?
I am addicted to peanut butter on toasted rye bread with cinnamon and banana!

5. What do you do to relax? Any hobbies besides music?
I like to read a lot. Even while eating. Or I just lay down on my really old couch doing nothing at all. And I'm well into sports!

6. Do you think (dance) music is able to lie?
No, I don't think so. I think music always shows a part of the person(s) who composed it. Music can beautify things or disguise things, but it cannot lie, no.

7. What is the last book you have read and what did you think of it?
I've read The Anomalies by Joey Goebel, which I really liked. It's about a rock band consisting of 5 really weird persons. It is about finding beauty in simple things, about having real friends and about being different and resisting to try to be like everybody else.

8. Are all your friends involved in (dance) music?
No, not at all. I also have friends who do something completely different, nothing artistic. I like to hang out with people with different backgrounds and lives.

9. What would you do with a million ping pong balls?
I would pile them up, jump into them and throw them around, so that it looks like falling snow.

10. What can we expect of you in the near future?
I want to play live a lot. I am already contacting different promoters, clubs and festivals to see if they would be interested in having me around. And I will move into a new studio so that I can produce a lot of new tracks there.

11. Do you have any special memories during the process of making the album that you would like to share?
I think the typical picture was me, sitting at the long table in my dining room, headphones on and staring at the computer screen and playing keyboard, a cup of tea next to me. And me and Henri, a friend of mine I finished most of the tracks with, at our favorite Thai place during a production break. And the moments when we carried all of our equipment to Modeselektor's studio for the final mixing and people looking funny at us.

12. How do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Hopefully producing more music, singing lullabies to my kids and spending more time with my friends.

13. Is there anything special that you would like to say to our readers?
Try to do what you really want to do. Don't get stuck with something you are not happy with. I always wanted to become an opera singer. I started a career in the classical music field, didn't like it, still wanted to be a singer, did my own music, always worked hard to earn money and did the music on the side. But now I have an album out ...that's the best feeling ever!

14. Which track on the new album is your favorite and why?
I can't tell. I like all of them. Each track symbolizes something else for me and carries a different feeling or a situation.

Thanks Damero for your time and good luck in the future!
